Off down to Kilkenny, in a couple of weeks, for the weekend. Two young lads in tow so they must be kept happy! Intend to use Kilkenny as a base so prepared to travel around so would welcome any suggestions of things to do or see. We have seen the Castle already!

i think there is a quad place in borris co carlow which is near kilkenny, maybe you could google it

See the Castle and the old stable block (now Kilkenny design centre) while in town. Lots of people sit out and have lunch in the park on sunny days - there's a play area and a pond (of sorts) with ducks - nice area for picnis. Jenkinstown (out on the road to Castlecomer) nice place for walk/ picnic - deer there sometimes. On a bit from this there is Dunmore Caves. Tour guide takes you down into the caves and tells the history of them - most kids love them - take a jumper.

In town again if you have the energy go up St Canice's Round tower. Good view of the area - although no stairs - reached by ladders. If looking for lunch try Kytler's Inn - a wax figure downstairs of Dame Alice Kytler (the witch of Kilkenny) - think it's still there. She poisoned several husbands but escaped from prison so they burnt her maid at the stake instead. There's a walking tour of Kilkenny from the Tourist Office (once the poor house) - interesting for adults and slightly older children.

Outside city nice places for walks are Inistigoue and Graighnamanagh. Inistigoue is place where filmed Circle of Friends and has a great wood and very picturesque - down by the river where kids still paddle/swim if nice day. Graignamanagh has loads of house boats - nice for a walk too.

Not really alot of activities/facilities in the city otherwise - no bowling alley or anything like that. Think there's an open farm near Thomastown and you might be able to arrange horseriding. Check out the theatre - can soemtimes have yong theatre groups etc putting on performances

there is the dome in carlow, 10 lanes of bowling, and other amusements for kids, great place for the family, carlow also has indoor swimming, carlow is only half an hour away from kilkenny

We went horse riding whilst in kilkenny, we'd never rode before and it wasn't that expensive, they brought us on a trek for an hour or so really good fun !
