fees and charges affect your pension"

I think it's a very good summary of the basic things everyone should know about their pension.

Anyone want to suggest more, here in this thread?

I think the most important thing to know is that you cannot trust anyone with your money, investments, pensions or otherwise. Nor can you rely on regulators or government to safeguard you against risk. What you can do is not have all your eggs in one basket. Don't rely on any one asset class. Ultimately under the mattress while not advisable might be just as good as anywhere. But a bit in the post office, a bit in a bank, a bit in a pension and a bit in property is a good start.
