Thermostat for cylinder

Hi
I got a new cylinder and am using a back boiler stove plus boiler to heat. It is a 3 coil telford cylinder.
I am looking for a thermostat make/model that I can place in one of the free holes to tell me what temperature it is reaching, problem is the cylinder is in the attic and i was looking for one that maybe i can extend the leads on so i can run the wires down to the stove so I can see the display there.
If anyone knows of one like this i could adapt it would be a great help
 
Have you three coils so that you can use a solar panel later? If so, then a solar controller would give you this functionality. The PT1000 probes that come with most solar controllers can be extended for up to 50m using 2X0.75mm stranded wire. I personally recommend that in all cases the solar controller shouldn't be in the hotpress, but should be in the kitchen where the information on its screen would be of most use.

If you are thinking of getting solar in the long term, maybe you should buy the controller now?

Even if you aren't thinking of solar, probably one of their controllers would be the most cost-effective way of doing this - there are usually three probes, one for bottom of cylinder, one for top, and one for panel. Putting these at different heights in your cylinder would give you more useful information about the amount of hot water you have available. Q
 
It's pricey (up to €200), but this is a Resol device which you hit on top and shows you the temp of your cylinder top to bottom through a wireless device.

That is in addition to the price of the controller itself... But it is a nice gadget.
 
I m hoping to get solar at a later point alright.
Could you recommend a controller and probes that would give me the three temperatures as you said and where I might pucrchase one from at a good price.
Are they compatible with all solar systems that i may get?
 
Most controllers from mainstream brands are similar. The unit mentioned by Davidoco was a Resol and would be compatible with their BS range of controllers which are offered by a good many solar installers.

The most common one in that range is the BS3, though there are variants if you want a variable pump speed or are likely to need two separate panel probes (either an east-west installation, or where there is a hip roof between two panels giving intermittent shade to both of them). Otherwise the BS3 would do. It is offered under various re-badged brands as well.

Any controller should work with any combination of panel and cylinder. Some installers use a pump-station with a built in controller, but you can get pump stations without the controller as well if you buy the controller first.
