One of my New Year’s resolutions was to avoid media as much as possible and to not be bothered about all the things going on over which I have no influence and that have no relevance to my life other than annoying me .
However I have been sucked in once again by the lunacy that now seems to infect politics at all levels.
Love him or hate him Trump was signing executive orders while still in his good suit after his inauguration yesterday. Meanwhile our gang of gombeens are squabbling about speaking rights, nominating Mary Lou as Taoiseach when she has as much chance as I have and then planning a two week holiday .
Ya couldn’t make it up and then they complain that people are not voting and are disinterested in politics.

Trump's executive orders - most of which will be shot down in the courts. A lot of it is performant nonsense to dupe those not paying attention.

If you think the Dail is bad, you obviously weren't paying attention to the mess in the US House of Representatives any time Trump's Republicans have to elect a speaker. Our 'gang of gombeens' have nothing on them. In a good way.

A Republican House rep called on a Bishop to be deported because she dared to call out Trump in public for his race baiting and scaremongering and scapegoating of minorities, asking for mercy. Trump called her 'nasty'.

Republicans make even the worse Dail member look statesmanlike and a parliamentarian for the ages.

I was very disappointed, horrified, to see the disgusting displays in the Dáil today. Nothing can justify what took place today and saying, in précis that they weren't as bad as "US House of Representatives any time Trump's Republicans have to elect a speaker" doesn't excuse any of them. Shame on you. Get back to work, elect a Taoiseach, and earn your extremely generous pay and tax-free allowances.

its SF and the opposition mostly left wing that caused all this, they are aplopletic that the rural independents have got one over on them and so are throwing their toys out of the pram. They seem to have an absolute hate of the healy raes , but they are obviously also electorally threatened by them hence this huge fracas

If all the parties are so concerned about the reduction in the amount of speaking time available to them I’m surprised that NOBODY has suggested that they sit for one extra day each week to make up for it.
They would be too busy doing constituency work ensuring everybody skipped the treatment q in the hospital

It just shows you this country has little to be worried about when the dail is suspended because of a fracas over speaking rights for a few independents rather than real problems other parliaments have to deal with like russian interference in their democracies or an actual full scale invasion of Ukraine .

Can you imagine the great little country we could be if those same politicians could generate even half the passion , drive and enthusiasm when attempting to solve the real problem that affect us.
Watch the next “ debate “ on housing or health and apart from Pierce Doherty working himself into a state of faux high dungeon you could be watching a cure for insomnia

I have never seen our TD's so disruptive, enough to prevent the election of a Taoiseach (like him or not), due to ANY contentious issue in Ireland since the civil war. You couldn't make it up. Speaking rights !! (Not abortion, Israel, Northern Ireland, tax, health, homelessness, bike sheds .... )
