The soon to be introduced new lower speed limits will make the roads more dangerous, in my opinion.

Just be careful about suggesting policy should only be decided on a cost benefit basis as this would see a lot of healthcare options, particularly for the elderly eliminated.
I think that few things might be more urgently needed than a proper cost benefit analysis of the entire health system in this country.

would have thought rsa or whoever in charge of this would have been doing a lot of tv messaging at this stage about it ?
Much of the target audience don't watch TV any more! Besides, they're more likely to be off blowing the budget on high vis for toddlers as a means of slowing down reckless drivers.

The RSA are in a difficult position in that the problem is lack of enforcement of the current laws by the Gardai but the RSA can't just say that.

I agree, but much of the focus of their spending is on potential victims, which shifts focus away from the root cause.

I don't think ads would matter wherever they are....When you see people been caught doing over 200 km in a 100 km zone , which are highlighted all the time, the message simply isn't getting through...

My point is someone who drives like that seeing an add telling people to put high vis on kids just serves to reinforce the idea that people getting killed on the roads are to blame themselves. It does nothing to address the driver's behaviour.

Agreed. I walk a few times a week on a secondary road 80 km with a pram and I have a high vis on both the pram and myself ....the speed is unbelievable at times ..

Yep, I've done that too. And the dirty looks you get from some who think you shouldn't be there at all!

If only I could get pedestrians on country roads without footpaths to walk FACING oncoming traffic. I stopped to remonstrate with what appeared to be a family, Mammy, Daddy, and three youngsters, who were walking, wheeling their bicycles on their nearside. Daddy was furious. "We have bicycles", he said almost frothing at the mouth. "When you dismount and wheel your bicycles, you magically become pedestrians", I replied, "so you walk single file, on your near-side, facing on-coming traffic". "How are we supposed to talk?" was Mammy's contribution. "If you want to talk, first get home safely, park the bikes, sit around the table, and chat away to your hearts' content. Out here it is about surviving, and surviving is your responsibility."
