If they plan to build it over the existing site of Athlone, I don't see a problem.
 
And I read that they are going to build a hotel on the site?? If you have a look at Pigsback Deals, Living and Social Deals, Grab One Deals. Groupon Deals etc, hardly a week goes past without a hotel in Athlone offering rooms at giveaway prices. The last thing Ireland needs is another hotel.
Regarding jobs. It will be built using cheap Chinese labour.
 
US companies are restructuring (read - downsizing) whereas Chinese companies are expanding.

One company promising a billion dollar investment into a place like Carrigtwohill was a complete pipe dream and the IDA would have ended up paying for it anyway.

A major expansion into the centre of Ireland is long overdue and takes the focus off Dublin/Cork/Galway /Limerick.

Now let's hope that the end result is jobs in long-term companies like Lenovo not 6-month wonders hiring 500 people to great fanfaree and then dropping like a stone without warning.

Non-EU workers
Don't the jobs have to be advertised locally first and then can only go outside the EU if they proved they advertised and couldn't find anyone

One thing Ireland does not lack is unemployed construction workers
