The lumper (famine potato)

Has anybody bought the lumper in M&S? (available for 3 weeks only I believe)

How is it as a mashed spud? I'm thinking fish pie. It will make a good story.

But never mind the history, what does it taste like? In a word: lovely. It neatly straddles the waxy and the floury camps and has a strong flavour.

Did anyone get to taste these?

I think its ironic that they are grown in Antrim where as in black 47 they were grown predominantly in the West and South of the country and not grown in the North East at all!

I bought a bag on Friday and we had them with dinner on Sunday.

A bit waxy, a bit 'new potato'y, they were grand as something different to the usual rooster. To be honest, I would be hard pushed to tell the difference between varieties of potato.
