Hi AAM friends,
The fridge section of my fridge freezer, of 11 years, has started freezing up even at low setting. The freezer section is working perfectly.
Could anybody tell me if the thermostat might need replacing or is it possible to do this. What else may be causing this problem.
Many thanks Browtal

More than likely the thermostat is at fault, is it a single or dual compressor unit?
May not be worth changing the stat seeing as how it is 11 years old.
Beaware at the mo it is robbing you with electricity.

There is a point where because of the age of the appliance, repair can seem to be difficult, or very costly.

I don't know if plumbers do fridges, but they kept our washing machine going for years :)

check the gaskets on your fridge doors, if worn they could be causing the problem.

I have a similar problem. Frost on inside of fridge last week, at back of top shelf. I defrosted and cleaned out. Freezer appears to be working perfectly, but I don't think the fridge is, i.e things are not being kept cool. The appliance is about 10 years old. Any advice welcome.

Had exactly that problem with a Hotpoint (never again) FF,the tech from Hotpoint came out and repaired it but said at the time that he reckoned there was a good chance it wouldn't last and it would need a new motherboard, cut to 3 moths later and that's what had to be done,it worked for another 11 months before it packed up again, this time on Christmas eve.

Cost to me? guts of €200 if I remember correctly...

Two lessons learned though, never buy Hotpoint products again and if any electrical appliance gives any sort of trouble, adios.

That is what I am trying to decide with mine. Should I just replace it...it's about ten years old and this is the first time it has caused any problem. Does anyone have any idea what a call out would cost please? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hotpoint charged me €108 per call out.Called out twice so that's €216,complete waste of money,if its 10 years old get shot of it...esp if its a Hotpoint/Indesit brand.

I always found these people good with advice so you could give them a ring and ask what they think the problem might be and how much it is likely to cost for the repair www.mastercare.ie

:)Thanks a million for the responses folks, really appreciate your help. AAM is the best!
