Last week a sectoral pay order was made in the Labour Court increasing the minimum pay rates of construction industry workers (about 60k of them last I looked) by 3.4% next year and another 3.2% the following year. That's an extra 6.6% on the cost of labour on new home builds or refurbishment and not one party or independent candidate has anything to say about it. Its no wonder we have such a severe housing crisis.

More details here.

I think SEOs are daft and that workers and employers are well able to negotiate without government coordination.

However those rates look in line with what the public sector is getting.

I think most employers in the sector would be delighted if that was all they have to pay.
