Tesos Maynooth 10c/l off petorol when you spend €100 in the store

Tesco in Maynooth have an offer if you spend 100 euro you get 10c off your petrol/diesel.

Hopefully, it's 10 c off per litre or else this qualifies as the worst offer of the year!!

Yes ,sorry about that. As you say it is 10c off a litre of fuel.

I find the queues in Tescos Maynooth to be long and slow both for petrol and paying at the booth. Sometimes I find it better to pay 1c per litre else where in the town and avoid the time wasting.

Also be carefull to check when the special offer ends sometimes they last a week or less.

I agree that the queues can be slow so I go early in the week and find the mornings not too bad.

I support Tesco for fuel because the other petrol stations were charging top dollar before they opened in the area.
 
used the tesco dundalk 5c off a litre today ( have to spend €40 in store) only 3 outlets in town will take the voucher, two staoil, one emo. Petrol was 105.9 a litre - one hundred metres away petrol was 103.9 so it was really only 3c per litre off.

The petrol stations in Maynooth were always a good deal cheaper than most other stations in the surrounding area (or indeed anywhere for 50miles out the N4/6). I could never understand why Tesco opened petrol pumps in Maynooth when the stations were already so cheap.
I can never understand the people who queue for 15-20mins for Tescos fuel when the Esso on the Straffan Rd is only a cent dearer. If you put 50l in your tank you are saving 50c for 20mins of your time. That's 1.50/hour. Would those people work for that? I doubt it, so why waste your time off at the weekend.
 
WOW 10c discount off petrol.wouldn't that really give you an incentive to shop with them!!!!
 

Depends on which side of the town you are because the traffic is so bad in Maynooth it can take 20mins to get from Tescos to the other stations.

Yes it would actually. I usually fill my car with 40 litres at a time. That's €4 saved on one fill. The money is far better in my pocket than some rip-off petrol garage. Over the course of a year, that kind of saving would contribute nicely to a weekend away somewhere. It is the (all too) common attitude of knocking a discount or bargain that has most people crying rip-off!!!

But if you want to continue to pay top dollar, knock yourself out...
 

To my mind, it's this kind of consumer inertia that retailers depend on in order to extract the maximum possible out of Irish consumers.

If you're willing to pay the higher prices because you put a monetary cost on all of your time, then good luck to you.

Others however, me included, will go for the best value possible, and avoid businesses that charge higher prices.

By frequenting businesses that provide value, and ignoring those that don't, we can pressurise businesses into actually partaking in proper competition on prices.

I know the cost of petrol in all places between work and home and never, ever frequent any of the dearer ones. With regard to Tescos, I look at the queues and decide I'd rether not spend 20mins of my life saving 50c. I do this because I know that I can get it for 1c dearer within a 2 mile radius. If the price difference was such that I was saving 2-3 euro I would reconsider.
I would consider consumer interia blindly queueing for Tesco for a 50c saving without considering the real cost in your time. But everybody has different opinions on this.

With regard to businesses providing value as I already stated the Esso on the Straffan Rd in Maynooth has for years been one of the cheapest around. To my knowledge only Tesco has ever undercut it in the locality. In my oninion they have always provided value and deserve to be supported. If they go then watch Tescos prices go up.
 
Tescos Maynooth is poorish value for petrol at 101.9 these days. Plus you have to put up with long queues, dispencers that take an age to 'kick in' and more queues to pay at the often undermanned kiosk.

The cheapest perrol in Kildare is now McLoughlins in Newbridge at 99.9. Ive noticed that Tescos Maynooth jack up their price by about 2c every time they run a store promotion. Tescos Killarney are also 99.9 c as are KellOil in Tralee.

Remember if spending €200 or over in Tesco,it's worthwhile to break the shopping up into two lots of €100 at the checkout as this entitles you to two fuel vouchers,handy if you have more than one car in the family.

When the offer is available you are given the voucher which is printed out with your till and visa/laser card receipts. Some of the cashiers will point the fuel voucher to you but if you are not aware of the offer it is very easy to pocket it as just another receipt.

The last vouchers expired 1st January and I have'nt been to Tesco since Christmas so I do not know if the offer still exists.
 
The Tesco 10c off with a €100 spend seemed to have finished when I was in their last week before the New Year (Maynooth store)
