hi guys,

I read in yesterday's Star Newspaper (yes i know not the most reliable source) in the Money Matters section that tesco will soon be entering the irish mortgage market offering mortgages of course at a very competitive rate. Now i have heard nothing else of this anywhere and there is also no mention of it on the
Tesco website.

Anybody know anything ??

Could well be the case as they were talking about it towards the end of last year - some type of joint venture with Royal bank of Scotland as I recall from back then.

Clubcard Points !!! Makes people go crazy !! the article says you get 3000 clubcard points if you take a mortgage out wiht them. That would be inline with the current promotions of giving 3,000 points for getting a personal loan, 4,000 points if you get a credit card, 3,000 points if you get life cover and 5.000 points if you avail of car insurance.

P.s. i don't work for Tesco but have to say they are very competitve at the moment and offer great value.

What ????

Only 3,000 points for a mortgage - thats €30 of value max, very poor imho

Odds are, it will he Tesco Personal Finance (TPF) selling the mortgages - this is a joint venture owned by Tesco plc & Royal Bank of Scotland (RBoS to their friends - owners of Ulster Bank & First Active over here)

This could be interesting, as I beleive TPF would have to apply to the regulator, if it is the one providing the mortgages in it's own right ... otherwise, it will be selling on behalf of a seperate entity & there are all sorts of confidentially issues etc to overcome.

Anyway, lets hope the rates are good & the service is better than the service provided by TPF for it's visa card

Cheers

I'd say they would operate as a tied agent of RBoS/UB.

When i say value, of course i meant in relation to any charges they apply alos they offer very competitive interest rates especially in the personal loans market. Don't fall for gimicks like Club points!!

its the bottom line that coutns at the end of the day
