hi,
I have a situation where a tenant has left and I just found out he has not paid his Eircom phone bill of €265(bill in his name)
Eircom have informed me I can not get phone put back into my name as it's been disconnected so will have to get a new line put in at cost of €130 and a delay of over 28 days.
The tenant is no longer in this country. The tenancy was short term of 5 weeks and phone was off(switched off after last tenants and not in anyones name) when he moved in.
Can this info by correct.

are you the landlord or the next tenant to move in? If you are the landlord, did you not check all bills were paid up before handing back their deposit???

I would have guessed the previous tenant who left with the unpaid bill would have had to put a deposit to Eircom before getting the line connected in teh first place???

Hi,
I am the landlord,
I did not check bills were paid as phone was off and if tenant got it back on it would be in tenants name. When any of my tenants move out they contact eircom to cancel phone, when next tenant moves in they contact eircom with their details and phone is switched on within 1 hour(no charge) in between I do not pay line rental. In the past tenants usually rent for a 6 months period. This tenancy was for 5 weeks and I did not know he was getting the phone put on. The bill of €265 includes the deposit which was not paid.

Marcecie, how has eircom left the bill? Have they said the landlord is responsibe as I don't think that would be the normal situation.

I would leave the phone alone and tell eircom they had a contract with the tenant and not you. If the next tenant needs a phone connected, then it will be their responsibility to get it re-connected.

Hi,
I contacted Eircom twice on Sat was told same thing both times that as tenant had not paid bill phone was disconnected and house owner was responsible for getting new phone line in.

I phoned again today and was given a different story that tenant was responsible and phone has now been put in my name.
thanks.
