My daughter is renting a house with her 1yr old baby. She moved in July of this year, the house was let through an agency and seemed fine at the time but shortly after we all got a smell of dampness, then she started noticing mould growing on some bedroon furniture.

The childs toys and her clothing were damp too. The hallway began to leak in the heavy rain we had and now the ceiling is wet and the plaster is falling off. She reported it and someone came out , that was 4 weeks ago and still nothing has been done, she is fed up ringing the agency and getting nowhere. Her worries are growing for their health and safety and she is distressed now and wants to move out. She was told she wont get her deposit back, has she any rights regarding this?

Re: tenents rights

Yes she has rights, she could contact threshold and they will advise her as to what to do, but first and foremost she should start looking straight away for another place to live and try and have something set up for an immediate move. Don't contact prtb yet if you can because time is not on your daughters side.

Re: tenents rights

try http://www.threshold.ie/ - my friend was quite happy with their help

Just got in touch with Threshold and they said mould wasn't a good enough reason to get her deposit back and that she should take photo's and write a letter of complaint to the agent. She has to give them 2 or 3 weeks to reply to her complaint and if nothing happens she's to ring them back.

I think its a health hazard and they have already replied to her complaint but still haven't done anything. My daughter has very bad eczema and she feels it has gotten worse since she moved into the house. I'm not sure if it is to do with the conditions, but it could be. Is mould harmful to health and what type of conditions are people expected to live in.
