Telephone line closure (beware)

I just thought I'd share my experience with you in case some one finds himself in the same situation
We had an Eircom line, then changed it to NTL and a year later to Perlico
The time came when we no longer needed that line, so we wrote to Perlico accordingly and asked them to cancell our contract, which they did and sent us the final bill.
Just as an extra measure I rang Eircom and asked them whether we still had any dealings with them in relation to the phone line (that's years after we stopped using Eircom service, but obviously not the line)
The Eircom agent advised me that if we did not ring and ask them to disconnect the line, we would've been charged for line rental
So Perlico just handed us over to Eircom as a service provider without telling us about it specifically. It's good I rang Eircom. May be most of people would do the same, but I just think it is a bit odd that the customer has to contact several places to disconnect his phone line.
