Taxing commercial vehicles

I understand that it is not yet possible to tax commercial vehicles online. Has anyone got any experience of sending the pre-addressed envelope with a cheque back to the motor tax office? Is there not a risk it will get lost? Or is the only safe solution to sit in tax office waiting for your turn?
 
I wouldn't say it will get lost, anyway as long as it's crossed you would be fine, '
I'd try posting it and see how it goes before I'd spend an afternoon sitting there
