Taxing car for sale: not insured

I've been trying to sell a Yaris for a couple of months now, and am having no luck despite dropping price drastically. As the car is off the road, I have taken it off the insurance.

The tax ran out end September and I was planning to add another 3 months tax. However, the tax authorities request details of the car insurance to allow me renew the tax.

Is there any way to renew tax for a car which is off the road and uninsured ? Is it true that it's possible to avoid paying tax by having the gardai certify that it's off the road ?

If its literally off the road, then you have nothing to worry about.

Fill it out, bring it to the Garda station, have them stamp it, send it to the Motor Tax Office and no tax is due for the period covered in Section 5.3.

Presumably though anyone looking to buy it will want to take it for a test drive and for that you'll need tax, insurance and NCT.
