Taxi case and legal fees

I am somewhat worried about this today.

I know it's maybe some way away however can anybody advise how the state's legal fees are recovered if the litigants don't have the funds.

As a spouse can I be held liable. Our only joint asset is the family home.

Surely if this was a test case for other taxi drivers, then the taxi drivers association/Federation will be opening their war-chest?
 
You would hope so, and you would hope that would have been made abundantly clear before this case was started.

Hopefully, the state will seek to recover its costs in full. These were businessmen taking a case to make money and they lost. As a taxpayer, I don't want to be put out of pocket by them.

The state should get an order for costs. If they don't pay, then the state should seek to seize their assets - even if that includes the family homes. If one of them has a family home, the state should seek a judgment and lodge it against it. The house should be sold. If he owns it jointly with someone else, his half would go to the state.

What would happen about costs if the Taxi Men had won ?.
Don't worry too much though. Nothing will be done till after the election , and even then nothing done to the family home.

You personally are not liable but your spouse who took that case will be liable. If he doesn't have any money it's pretty difficult to get money from a person. Your share of the family home can not be touched however his share can, I doubt it will come to this.
 
Ok let me take a step back.

I believe that farmers are protected from competition by EU regulation. You believe that they are not.

In support of my opinion I have pointed out a case where imports of farm produce are effectively banned by high tariffs. If you don't think that this shields farmers from competition you might explain why.

You have pointed out the high level of market volatility faced by Irish Agri producers. I accept that this is true, but I do not understand how this shows that farmers are not protected from competition. I think that volatility arises from weather, changes in consumer taste, changes in output decisions by farmers and many other factors. We may no longer have wine lakes and butter mountains but we don't allow free import of agricultural produce.

I don't see how you can compare farming to the previous regulated taxi environment. You don't need a licence to become a farmer, we don't have a small number of farmers controlling who can become a farmer. Current farmers are not protected from more farmers entering the market and providing them with more competition.
