Taxes on Air Travel

Hi,

Can't seem to find anything specifically on this, but exactly what happens to the taxes that are added to your air travel tickets.

Is it possible to reclaim unused travel taxes, in that a Ryanair/Airlingus flight cost €4.99 each way, yet with taxes etc this total comes to €150. I did not get to go on the trip, so Ryanair/Aerlingus get to sell the seat again, and I guess have to reimpose the taxes. Therefore, I beleive, I am owed the taxes back.

Does anybody know do I go to the airline, which I have already tried and they gave me some guff about it not being possible, or do I go to the revenue?

Thanks

Leroy

Ryanair policy [broken link removed]

Aer Lingus have a similar policy.

Most or all of the so called taxes on flight tickets are, in fact, airport and other charges and not taxes at all.

There is no specific Irish Govt tax on air travel.

There is a UK govt tax, known as Air Passenger Duty (APD) for flights in the UK. (Starting in UK?)

The wheelchair levy, insurance, levy, passenger service charges (PSC), etc., etc. are all the airfare, just hidden under another name.
