Taxation of U.K. dividend on shares ?

I have a few shares in a UK company. They earned Euro 16.00 in dividends in 2008.

Revenue taxed me on Euro 16.00.

I was told by the UK people who issue the dividend cheques that 10% tax is deducted in the UK and that Euro 16.00 was my net dividend after deducting the 10%.

I don’t pay UK tax and never worked there.

Does anyone know if this calculation is right as it seems that there is an element of double taxation ? If so, am I supposed to reclaim it from somewhere ??

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here's another [broken link removed].

You can't claim anything back but at least you're only taxed on the net amount you receive after the UK tax man has taken his cut.
