Hi
My hubby has private health insurance through his job (at the moment anyway - not sure if it will be there for much longer - just had 3rd pay cut in 6 months).
On his payslip each month the amount paid after tax relief is deducted at source is included as a benefit-in-kind for gross salary and PAYE, PRSI and Health and Income Levies are then charged on this gross salary total. My question is this - as the figure for benefit in kind also inorporates the Health Insurance Levy payment (which works out at 479 gross per annum or 383.20 after tax relief per annum for our family), does this not mean that we are being levied on the levy? That is, as the benefit-in-kind figure includes one twelth of the annual Health Insurance Levy cost, and then he pays the Income Levy and the Health Levy on the gross sum, he is in effect paying Health Levy, Income Levy, PRSI and PAYE on the Health Insurance Levy - is this not a form of double taxation?
Curious to see what opinions you have on this.
Thanks
