Taxation of 2008 dividend income

During 2008 I have received some dividend income from Irish companies. Dividend withholding tax already been deducted.

I'm taxed at the higher rate. Am I correct in thinking that I need to pay preliminary tax on the dividends received by the end of October 2008?

Should I complete a form 12 to do this? I don't see one available on the Revenue web site for the current year.

Re: Taxation of 2008 divident income

Are you a PAYE worker and is it a relatively small amount? You can just include it on the 2008 Form 12 and pay it next year, prelim tax is not required. The form won't be up on revenue.ie for a while yet

Ok Thanks.

Yes I'm PAYE. Net dividend about 150 euro so not a fortune by any means.

Re: Taxation of 2008 divident income

This is an email reply I got from the revenue about some dividends I received in 2006. You would want to check that this is still the same but i'm guessing this is probably going to be the same for 2007/2008 and hasnt changed. The limit is €3174 before they would want you to pay it up front in the year you received it.

-------------------------------------------
It depends on the amount of the Dividends received. If the Dividends received are more than €3174 then you need to register for Income Tax and pay the tax due by 31st October, 2006. If it is less than €3174 then you can pay the tax due when you receive a Balancing Statement based on the Form 12 you would submit for 2006 during 2007.

So forget about small dividends from 2008 till at least 2009?

if you receive dividend 150 Euro with 20% taken DWT

TAx on Original amount 187.50 at 41% 76.88
Less DWT Credit 37.50

Net Additional Tax Payable 39.38

Is this correct?
