My wife is European (living in Ireland) and her parents would like to send her a lump sum. Just wondering if she has to pay tax? If so, does she have to declare it at the end of the year?
Thanks.

This will be treated as a gift, and liable to Capital Acquisitions Tax. However, the threshold for a child receiving a gift from parents (assuming no other gifts to date) is in excess of €500,000, therefore if the amount is below that - no liability.
