Hi,
I got married a year ago (yey for me
).
Anyway, as my wife and myself are basically on the same salary with only a couple of hundred euro separating us gross anually I was wondering if there's any point informing the taxman.
From what I can see on the paye tax credits side, it's only beneficial if one person is earning much more and can combine the credits for both. Is this true ?
I always wondered about the Tax Credits mentioned in the budget.
eg. €500 for a single person and €1000 for married couples. Basically that's the exact same ?! Or is it that your tax credits double
each when you get married, so each spouse gets €1000 whereas if you were single, each person only gets €500.
Can someone clarify what benefit there is to someone like me & wifey registering as a married couple for taxation purposes?
We have a mortgage and are still receiving FTB allowance too, if that makes any diff.
Thanks folks.
