I have become a sole trader this year, I was wondering how much if any of my Tax return in October I can write off against post grad course Fees, if its possible to write off a chunk of say €5000 fee against Tax due to revenue its no-brainer you are saving on Tax bill due to Revenue and you are investing in yourself..is my assumprtion correct and how much off say 5000 can i write off?

You can do that ccbkd - to my knowledge.

I understand it like this: tax on sole trader is 42% or thereabouts and that is the rate you're able to get relief on. So if you're post grad cost you €5K then you get tax relief of €2,100 (42% of €5k).

You can also do this for medical expences.

1) Tax relief on Tuition Fees is governed by this Revenue Guide .

2) Medical Expenses are only relievable at the standard rate from 01/01/09. Relief is no longer granted at the taxpayer's marginal rate.
