Tax when working less than 6 months in a year

I am returning to College in September this year. I remember hearing years ago that if you worked for less than six months you got your tax back (excl PRSI). I am now wondering should I quit work before the end of June and get full rebate on tax paid til then which would outweigh the net salary earned if I stay on for the extra 2 months?
My current slary is above €50k.

I'm not aware of any such rule but it is the case that if your are not employed for part of the year and some of your tax credits and/or standard rate band would otherwise go unused then you can claim tax back in respect of these. You'd have to work out for yourself the pros and cons of finishing up early versus staying on longer but I suspect that the latter may be more beneficial to you. You could also try [broken link removed] to compare different partial working years scenarios and how they affect your overall tax bill.
