Can anyone verify the tax status here of a US 401-k plan (rolled over into an online brokerage Individual Retirement Account).
Such an account is considered tax free in the US, not liable for tax on dividends or capital gains on shares.
If an Irish citizen holds one of these accounts and returns to Ireland to reside permanently, is s/he liable for tax and/or PRSI on dividends received or capital gains made on share trades? And if so, does this liability begin right away or on the person becoming ordinarily resident in Ireland?
