Do you need to complete an annual tax return if

1. You are over retirement age
2. Are the spouse of 1 and have never worked or paid tax

The spouse of one?!! A pensioner? This all depends on the income you and your spouse have!

What do you mean by "annual tax return"? Most PAYE workers don't have to do an annual return (Form 12) but just need to keep Revenue updated with any significant changes in circumstances. If you have non PAYE non income tax exempt income then other rules may apply.

Father has retired and mother has never worked or paid tax. They own land which is agricultural but just use it for hay for the horses.

They are signing land over to us and they have never mentioned the land to the tax before but have had it for 30 years.

Should they have completed returns for it.
