Tax Relief Tuition Fees - credits or cash?

Hoping someone could help me. I paid college fees last year and sent off my claims form just before Christmas. I received notification that my tax credits had been adjusted and apparently my employer has been notified. My question is, if I have received 1000 tax credits, do I not get a nice cheque as well - is it one or the other? I am slightly confused. The extra tax credits are great but would love a nice cheque after Christmas. If I submitted a P60 would that help? Any advice appreciated?

Something wrong here .....If your tax credits were adjusted just before Christmas , then its unlikely you have received the benefit of this in 2008 .

Therefore you will probably need to send in P60 and claim all your full entitlements for 2008 including Tuition Fees .

If your adjusted tax credits relate to 2009 , then presumably your tuition fees do as well

Thanks a mil for the quick reply. The tax credit certificate I received is for 2008 and I have been paid since the tax cert was sent to me as I'm currently working as a sub teacher so it seems as though the credits may have been applied but I'm wondering, am I only entitled to the credits if I claim in the same tax year as the fees or am I entitled to the tax credits and a refund?

If this is the case then contact Revenue and ask for a P21 balancing statement for 2008.
