Tax relief on pension contributions for 2024

I’ve previously had AVCs which I paused in late 2023 due to other financial commitments and I’m now ready to start contributing again. Anyone know if it’s possible at this stage of the year to get tax relief for AVCs for 2024 or is it too late in the year to get them restarted and avail of the full years tax relief? I’m looking to contribute the maximum amount to AVCs and I’m on a public sector salary of €85,000 and have around 14 years to retirement and thinking it would be worth getting the 2024 tax relief if it’s possible at this stage.

Yes, just make the contribution and file your return by 31 Oct or online by 14 Nov next year.

The pension contribution just needs to be paid before October 31st (or the extended November deadline) 2025 if you want to claim tax relief against 2024 income.

Filling out Form 11 is alot more complex then doing an amendment via MyWelfare.ie; if you can do it via MyWelfare be easier for you. My OH had this same issue; did an AVC and when he looked at getting a tax refund Form 11 is blank and had to fill in all details e.g. Health insurance his work pays for - he opted for Mywelfare in the end.
Good luck with it
