Tax relief on education - What is "fás approved"?

I'm considering attending attending an IT course in ECDL training, and wondering if I'd be eligible for tax relief.

Information technology and foreign language courses

Tax relief is available in respect of fees paid for training courses in information technology and foreign languages (other than postgraduate courses) if certain conditions are met:

  • The course involved must be less than two years duration
  • It must result in the awarding of a certificate of competence (and not just a certificate of attendance)
  • The course must be approved by FÁS.

The course is an IT course, less than two years duration and you get a qualification at the end. My question is however, what is "approved by Fás"? Are these just the courses listed on the fás site?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Are you doing this course with FAS or are you doing it through a second or third level college??

No, I'm not doing it through fás, but I was just wondering if that's what it means to be approved by fás. I suppose I could send them an email. I haven't had much luck in asking fás for help or information in the past so I'm reluctant to try to get an answer there.
