Tax relief for medical expenses of family member abroad.

Extended family member abroad needs minor surgery costing €2k (there is no insurance cover).

My wife wants to pay for this via bank transfer with bill in her name and our address.

Wife’s gross this year will be €50kish all PAYE. Will this qualify for 20% tax relief for her? If so will she get a tax credit of €400?
 
There's no restriction on where the treatment / expense arises, as long as the nature of it falls within the parameters for relief, so if you're happy the expenditure would qualify if it was surgery performed here in Ireland, then it'll be allowable.
