I am fund raising for a registered charity. Most people are giving me cash, and i intend to give to the charity a personal cheque of the same amount as the amount raised in cash (I don't want to keep cash at home, hence lodging cash onto specific bank a/c)
At the end of the year, can i (41% tax rate) still complete a CHY2 to allow the charity to claim tax back even though money would have come from 20% PAYE, 41% PAYE, self employed, companies, etc...?
You would probably have to treat the donations to you as gifts and deal with any gift tax issues that might arise before passing the money on as a charitable donation. Not sure if there are limits on how much of your annual income you can donate before the receiving charity can no longer claim full tax relief?
As far as I know, tax relief is only applicable to money which you earned and paid PAYE on, so the money you received from others through fundraising in not applicable. Each donor, who gives 250 or more can apply on their own behalf, but you can aggregrate it up and make one application, under your name.
