Hi,
I'm a bit mixed up with the First Time Buyer tax status of my wife.
I bought my house in 2005 and am the only person mentioned on the deeds and mortgage account. I'm entitled to TRS for 7 years 2005,-2011 inc.
I got married in 2009. From the revenue site and specifically 'Example 6' under 'Changes from 1st May 2009':
http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/tax-relief-source-mortgage-interest-relief.html#section4
The example of Kevin and Julie getting married says my wife is now treated as a first time buyer and begins her status from when we got married.
However, I rang Revenue to confirm and they suggested we should hold off registering her in case we decide to buy another house in the future. They said we wouldn't get any benefit until 2011 as i'm not currently using up the €10,000 annual interest ceiling.
So is this the case? We can buy another house in the future and my wife will be a first time buyer?
Thanks in advance for info.
