tax refund on returning to Australia

A colleague of mine, an Australian, is returning to Australia having worked in Ireland for 4 years.

She applied for a tax refund and has received a letter from the Revenue telling her to resubmit the claim after 31 December 2009. Is this correct?

She should be able to claim for split year residence relief & can claim a refund by submitting a form P50 to revenue, together with her P45 from her employment and a letter stating that she is going to live abroad permanently or for a specific period of time.

thanks Nutso

She did that, but the Revenue had told her to reapply after the year-end.

She has since phoned the Revenue and no one was able to tell her why. Eventually the Supervisor came back and told her that they would process it now.

Very strange.

Sometimes they prefer if the claimant sends the claim from their address in the other country as proof that they have in fact left rather than that they are "going to leave". It is strange though.

( Any chance it's a way of slowing outflows from state coffers )
