Hi there,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I'm looking for some information on Tax returns. I'm married and my wife and I are immigrating in June. We will have worked 5 months of 2009. My gross pay is €50,500. My wife's gross pay is 42,000.
Can anyone tell me what our tax refund would be approx.
Also would we be better to do a joint one or separate. We were only married last year so our tax records show us as single but this can be changed easily.
Thanks very much
JMW

Hi JMW, the refund will depend on your current tax credits so would be difficult to calculate without this information, but you will more than likely be due a certain amount. You wont be able to apply for this though until you both have your P45s. It will probably not make too much of a difference as to whether you decide to do this as a married couple or not.
Sorry I cant be more informative.

Hi JMW,

The joint assessment in most cases works out better as you can transfer unused credits(if any) and have higher cutoff point. if you need more help let me know and might be able to advise you more
