Anyone used this yet?

I did see a post the other day enquiring about the web address, but I can't find it now - whoever posted said they would try it out.

It amazes me how people are becoming so interested in this taxrefund.ie website.

They charge you 10% of any refunds that you get.

In these days of ripoff Ireland, how is no one jumping up and down about this.

It only costs you the price of a stamp to get the revenue to do the same thing for you, and they give you the 100% back rather than 90%.

Given that most people's refunds will be nil or very small, the 10% deal might be the cheapest option around. Even when you are looking at a €500 PAYE refund (the equivalent of an unclaimed €2,500 standard-rated allowance), the fee is only €50. Unless VAT is charged on top of the 10%, the net fee is only €41.

In fact, I doubt if this service will be economic from the point of view of the promoter(s) especially as the Revenue ROS system will not (as yet anyhow) entertain PAYE tax returns for years up to date, so they will be stuck with doing paper-based returns with all the associated rigmarole re form-filling, assessments, armtwisting Revenue to process refunds within a respectable timeframe etc. I wish them the best of luck but I don't envy them.

I've always found that I can do my tax reclaims myself by writing a letter stating the allowances or credits that were not correctly processed (e.g. medical expenses, pension contributions etc.), including copies of the relevant P60(s) and letting Revenue do the work of rechecking my account for the relevant year(s). If it's a question of trying to spot allowances etc. that were not claimed but could be only that the taxpayer did now know about then that may be a different matter. (Haven't looked at the site in question).

i was the one that mentioed it a while ago. I did not proceed based on other posts here saying that it could be done for free.


i did hear on today fm that a lot of people assumed it was an official govt web site and that a lot of peple were waiting more then the advertised 24 hours for a reply.

Revenue is a freepost address, so it doesn't even cost the price of a stamp!!

I wasn't aware that they charge you 10% of your refund. I imagine their objective is to build up a client bank for the future?

Anyway, I registered on the site and received a confirmation e-mail the next day. That was on 10th March and I've heard nothing since. I did not leave a phone number as I never do. However I at least expected an e-mail if they could not reach me by phone.

I normally do my own return, I was just curious about the site to see if there were reliefs available I wasn't aware of.

It's not a good start for them not to come back to people at all. I'm sure they're busy because of the advertising they've been doing, but even an e-mail to say that they're busy and will get to mine wouls suffice, but not a word so far. I don't hold out much hope!

Article in the Tribune about taxrefund.ie implies that its the revenue themselves who run the site???

Revenue have nothing to do with this service as far as I know. What article was that and was it in the most recent issue of the Tribune?

Clubman, it was in last Sundays(20th March) edition. In the business section. it was in one of those small couple of paragraph storys they have down the side of the some of the pages. not sure what page number....however, I'm pretty sure it was on the right hand side of a right hand side page if you know what I mean. And it most defo implied that revenue were running the site.

Are you sure it didn't say - run by ex-Revenue employees?

Seemingly it was a genuine mistake on the Tribune's part and a correction will appear in next Sunday's paper. Taxrefund.ie are in no way associated with Revenue.
