tax refund cheque

I did my taxes through an accountant in October. I received notification from the revenue that I was due a refund in November. To date the cheque has not arrived. How long does this normally take?

Was that a PAYE Balancing Statement or a self-assessed Notice of Assessment that you got showing refund due ?

It was a notice of Amended Assessment for the year ended 31/12/07.

If it is a Notice of Assessment then the self-assessment district may not necessarily refund tax until they have checked that there are no other outstanding amounts. If there are other outstanding amounts ( e.g. VAT or Prelim 2008 Income Tax etc. ) they can offset against those tax heads first. You should check with them (contact details on the notice) to see what is the hold up.
