Tax records duration

How long are tax return records needed to keep-is it 4 years or 5 or 6,any views.
 
Is that 2008 to 2003 inclusive,for 6 years records.
 
I reckon you need to keep at least the details for the 6 tax years prior to the current one - e.g. 2002-2007. In some cases it may make sense to keep records further back than that.
