Tax Query - Unemployed

I have been unemployed since Dec 08 and am claiming social welfare job seekers allowance. Up until Dec 08, I was earning 50k per year so I was paying the high rate of tax. Is there any way I can claim back any tax from 2008 or am I entitled to claim anything at all. Thanks in advance for your help. Iris.

Order a P21 balancing statement for 2008 from Revenue, this will show if you are owed tax

Thanks. I just thought I might be entitled to claim some tax back that I paid last year as I'm not working now. I'll apply for a P21 anyway. Thanks again.

No, you're not entitled to claim back any tax that was paid last year. However you may have overpaid your tax by claiming all appropriate reliefs etc.
