A close friend is considering buying shares in a NYSE listed Reit. Am I correct in thinking that the dividend would be subjected to withholding tax at 20%, but that he would be given a credit for this amount when filing his tax return ? He has previously only invested in FTSE shares as there is no withholding tax.
