Tax on electronic goods from outside EU

hi all,

does anyone know the rate of tax on goods imported from outside the EU?

thinking of purchasing a laptop from a company based outside the EU - savings are very good compared to high street prices here. i'm aware that the goods in question will be liable for tax. is that tax 21% of purchase price?

I think it's at least 21% VAT possibly on the local market value of the goods (?). There may be other customs and handling charges too. There are several existing and recent threads on the issues of tax and other charges on such imports.

that is a complicated document and despite listing almost every article known to mankind i didn't see computers anywhere - although i didn't have much time to go through it. i'll give it a more thorough examination later.
