Tax on a personal pension

I know that personal pensions have tax deducted at source (by the pension provider).

However, if a pensioner’s total income (including pension) is below the tax threshold is he still liable to pay tax on his pension?
 
if total income including pension is under the exemption limit for the relevant age / status then tax would not be payable. If it has been deducted the person could apply to Revenue for a refund (maximum 4 years back ) You could also check with Revenue and the pension provider that the Tax Credit and Standard Rate Cut-off Point instruction is correct for the incomee involved. There's a lo call number on the tax credit certificate.
