Hi. First post on this site. I've a question regarding the addition of my new wife's name to the deeds of a property. Currently the house in solely in my name. My wife previously owned a property a few hours ago and sold it before we got married.

Is there any benefit in adding her name to the deeds?
Is there any tax implication involved in this undertaking i.e. stamp duty etc.

Any help would be great. Cheers

There is no stamp duty on a transfer between spouses, there is no Capital Gains Tax or Capital Acquisitions tax either. If the property is the family home there are no Land Registry fees on the transfer either.

There are a few legal benefits to adding her name, if the property is registered in joint names as joint tenants then the house automatically passes to the surviving joint tenant. She will obviously have more security in the property with her name on the title deeds.
