I have recently returned to Ireland after several years abroad, outside EU. I have found a job and recieved a form from the tax office showing my allowances etc on a Week 1 Month 1 basis from 31st October 2007 - 31st Dec 2007.
Am I entitled to recieve my full years tax credit allocation? And if so - how do I have to apply for this? Who do I apply to?
Thanks for any help given.
 
Week/MOnth 1 would be correct given that the Revenue do not, at this stage, know whether you would be entitled to the full year's tax credits given your non-resident situation in recent years. Your new certificate from 01/01/08 on should be on a "cumulative" basis. You will probably need to file a tax return for 2007 to clear up any outstanding items after the year end 2007. You would correspond with Revenue at the contact details on the tax credit certificate which you received.

When I returned after living outside the EU the tax office advised me to write on the form that I was intent on staying here and not intent on leaving, which they advised would speed up processing of my tax papers which I thought was funny at the time, maybe they divvy out the golden credits to returning migrants if they are a good bet on staying lol.

Unfortunately it's a much simpler reason. If Revenue grant you a full years credits against, say a couple of months earnings, then you might pay no tax at all in the year. Then, on review, if it turns out that you had other income from whatever source, that was taxable in IRL in the year, then you may owe them tax on that. It's easier to grant credits week by week until returns are sorted and then give you back money if necessary than to be looking for money off you which you may not have expected to have to pay.
 
There is a very simple Review form (much simpler than Form 12) which should be completed and returned to revenue by anyone who thinks he may be entitled to some refund. This form is best suited to someone on week1/month1.
Include copy of P60 + Med1, Rent1,or any other claims as appropiate
