i applied for the tax credits for bin charges last year but do i need to do this every year or is once enough

thanks in advance

every year
Are you sure? I seem to recall us getting the same relief being granted automatically each year once it was claimed in the first place. On the other hand since the relief limits and available relief (e.g. with respect to actual bin tag or lift charges paid) may vary from year to year it's always advisable to review the relief granted and reapply if there are any changes. Of course this goes for all tax credits which should be reviewed at year start/end. Most of this can be done online these days via [broken link removed].

i have claim them every year

I just checked and we definitely got the same refuse charges relief as the previous year automatically. However since the limits and actual expenditure changed we had to update Revenue with the new details to get the correct relief. Anyway - as I mentioned it makes sense to always review tax credits at the start and end of the year just as it does to check P60s, payslips, get P21 balancing statements etc. Anything to avoid paying too much or too little tax.
