tax credits for occupation?

hi all

Are there any tax credits available that relate to one's occupation? I couldnt find it on the revenue website.

yes there are very specific limits and the Revenue publish them - try searching under "occupation allowances". If you are in a union ask your union as they usually negotiate these amounts with the Revenue.

My understanding is that you can claim some expences which are related to your occupation. The maximum you can claim is set out in a revenue document. [broken link removed]

thanks ajapale - this is the exact list that I was referring to. Most of these allowances were determined many years ago and have been increased every now and then. Some are so specific that they are obscure so the Unions must have a hand in them.
 
Allowances

I presume these figures from Tommy's site are allowances as stated on the site and not credits?

How are these handled from a tax point of view?
If the revenue is aware of these and they are displayed on your Notice of Credits statement then would they merely be deducted as 1/52 of the allowance from your gross wage if paid weekly or 1/12 of the allowance from your monthly wage, ie if the figure for the allowance for the year was 52 euros then your gross wage would be viewed as being one euro less if paid weekly before tax credits are applied and then of course tax??

If you are entitled to these for the past few years and have not claimed, then can you claim for previous years and if so how many can you go back?

Does anyone know if there is a website that lets the PAYE worker know what else he might be entitled to in terms of extra tax credits, etc. I realise this one is occupational specific but are we entitled to deductions for other things?

Now thats a good one.

I assume that revenue dont automatically add these amounts to your tax credits?
I would also like to know how to go about claiming this?
