Hi, As a married couple with one child, can we claim any tax credits for our child or is it only if I was a One-parent family?

No. If one spouse remains at home most or all of the time to mind the child then you may qualify for the Home Carer's Tax Credit. They are not tax credits but obviously you are entitled to claim Child Benefit and Early Childcare Supplement (for under 6's) SW payments. This thread might be of interest to you:

a mate is buying is currently looking to buy a house but is living temporarly in his girl friends house, they have 2 children, is he still entitled to the one parent family tax credit?

If he's cohabiting with his partner then no. See [broken link removed]:
You do not qualify for One-Parent Family Tax Credit if:
  • You are a person qualifying for the Married Person's Tax Credit or
  • You are a person living together with another person as man and wife

Hi Clubman, I see the credits for Home Carer, but both myself and my husband are working fulltime, so I take it there is no extra credits if we have a dependant child. Am I right?

Yes as far as I know. There are no tax credits specifically for just having children.
