Hi all,

What is the situation with tax credits after being on the dole? I have been out of work for four months but landed a new job on Friday - do I need to claim tax credits for the time I was out of work?

Thanks for any help you can give,

CP

Firstly, congrats on the new job. Hand your P45 into new employer, they will get you set up. Revenue will issue the new employer a new tax credit cert for you. If there is any tax due back it will go through the new employer. Bear in mind that your JB is ( mostly ) taxable and that uses up tax credits so there may not be as much as you think due. There's also a problem in that the Dept of SW and Revenue are not syncronised on the data so Revenue won't know what you got in JB. You could get the benefit of all the unused credits but a year end balancing might then show an underpayment. Then again Revenue might issue new cert on week 1 basis so you get no benefit for past unused credits til year end when you file a return with pay and JB on. Important thing is get the P45 to new employer asap.

Download form 12a from revenue website- This will count both P45 and any Job benefit up to date.

By filing this form with Copy P45 you will get a accurate tax credit and standard cut off point cert going forward.

Similar situation, hopefully starting a new job next week. I sent my P45 to the revenue, on their direction to claim tax back for last year. Just wondering if anyone knows what/if anything I would need to give to a new employer?

dont give anything to new employer, send off form12a yourself to revenue and they will them send your employer relevant tax information or phone tem giving your pps number and employer tax number and ask them to send out tax credi/bands info to new employer and copy to you
