tax credit transfer

Hi there,

My girlfriend and I are expecting a baby later this year. We're looking into her giving up work for the first two or three years but are unsure how my net wage will fair out. At present I'm on about 40k but that figure is closer to 65k with excessive overtime. She's on about 30k. Last year my net was approx 45k. Could I claim her tax credits etc if she quits work, even though we're not married? (a wedding isn't an option yet as we've yet to buy a house which will use up all our savings and then e1500 a month on
mortgage repayments!

No. Unmarried couples cannot benefit from the sort of tax treatment allowed for married couples.

A civil wedding only costs €100. If it's a question of when rather than if then you could do that now and have the "big day out" later on when you are flusher with more cash.
