My husband wasn't working for a while he was on a CE scheme. I was working so had his tax credits as a married couple. He has started working now but I would be the higher earn of both of us. Is it best to keep our tax credit the same before my husband started work. this is what it is at present
Self
Personal Tax Credits 3750.00
Employee Tax Credit 1875.00
Flat rate expenses 25.40
Home Carers Tax Credit 1800.00

Spouse
Personal Tax Credits 0.00
Employee Tax Credit 1875.00
Flat rate expenses 0.00
Home Carers Tax Credit 0.00

It's basically a matter of choice how you decide to divide credits and tax bands.
Your husband's take home pay will be lower as a result of your choice.

At the end of the tax year you can request a statement of liabilities.
This will take all your joint credits and tax bands into consideration and if you have been over taxed you will receive a tax refund.

Make sure that you're still entitled to the home carer's credit. If he earns over €10,800 for the year, you'll end up having to repay it.
